Shark Tooth Creek

Field Trip with our Cahaba Academy Coverschool.  The kids have been looking forward to Shark Tooth Creek all school year!  Finally, we were on our way.  We arrived in Aliceville on the property to get ready for our tour.  The owner and tour guide was quite interesting.  He has a very dry sense of humor but really knows how to make things fun for the kids.  We got on the Shark Tooth Express, after a short lecture by him about the property and its history, and took off to the creek.
The kids were to look for shark teeth in the water and on the rocky/sandy areas.  At first I couldn't find any!  Might have something to do with the fact that I was at the back of the pack, but it also took a little practice.
If you found a big one, the guide would declare you part of the "X Club" and put a big X on your hand with a sharpie.

You could even become part of the "Double X Club".  Luckily, he stopped there....I was a little worried about what might be coming next.   He also offered a competition for the kid who found the biggest/nicest tooth, as determined by him and the kid who found the most teeth by weight. Not surprisingly, Noah (aka the Treasure Hunter) found the most by weight!
and came home with a free Shark Tooth Creek tshirt!

It was a really fun trip!  And I am soooo glad we went.

Growing Bacteria to finish up our Anatomy Study

We took samples from multiple places all around the house.  I did not take an after picture but let me just tell you:  IT WAS GROSS!  It made me want to take a dozen containers of Clorox wipes and scrub everything in the house!  Every single sample we took grew bacteria - it was quite surprising the ones that grew the most!
